Kubernetes on the edge is becoming increasingly popular for orchestrating workloads closer to where the data is located. However, the edge usually consists of leaf devices that are too small, too old, or too locked down to run Kubernetes on their own (i.e. IP cameras, environmental sensors, PLCs), and they may operate with intermittent availability and downtime. So how can we dynamically bridge these leaf devices to a cluster? This talk will go over how even newcomers to Kubernetes can quickly connect their IoT leaf devices at the edge to their clusters using Akri’s latest v1.0 release as well as discussing how the UX will further be improved through the use of the Dynamic Resource Allocation (DRA) API which is a new API that enables requesting and sharing resources between pods and containers inside a pod. At the end of the talk, we will demo the new API and other v1.0 features of Akri.
